The inspiration for the Squared Space backpack came from a desire to create a functional and stylish solution for artists and art students who are always on the go. The square shape of the backpack is designed to imitate the look of a sketchbook or paper, reflecting the artist's passion for their craft. The design features bold contrasting accents, giving Squared Space a modern and eye-catching look while also making it easy to identify your gear in a crowded workspace. The result is a backpack that not only solves the common problems faced by artists and art students, but also showcases their unique style and passion for their craft.
Designing Squared Space
Design decisions were made base on the overall form of the backpack. With its squared shape, I decided to incorporate rectilinear moments highlighting them with black accents.
Initial Sketching
Final Design Decisions
Black accents were used to highlight the rectilinear design of the backpack, along with highlighting touchpoints throughout the design. Inspired by the artistic backpack Kanken backpacks by Fjallraven, I decided to use the handle to compliment the final design. Using straps and buckles to secure the covering, any materials or work within the backpack will be protected from external elements, such as rain, and will be ready for use.

Construction Process
The Squared Space backpack was constructed in parts, since it has multiple components and pockets. The back panel and straps were reinforced with foam to ensure comfortable transport, and the mesh water bottle holder was measured to fit large water bottles.
